Proper Way to Operate the Foot Pedals
This may sound a little odd, but some people are not too
sure how to operate the foot pedals. The correct method, or
technique, is to push the pedals down in an alternating
fashion. When one pedal is depressed, the other one is not. As
soon as one pedal has been pushed all the way down, the other
pedal is being pushed down.
It's important to point out that at no time should
both pedals be pushed down at the same time. Push one down,
than the other, in a back and forth action. However, if, you
find that you're doing this and nothing is happening, chances
are you have some serious leaks in your bellows system, which
means they need to be recovered, or you may have some other
issues that need attention.
Here's an important note: Be sure you have some of
the stops pulled out. If you don't, you're not going to hear
anything even if the bellows are in good working order. If
you're not sure which ones to pull out, pull them all out! You
might think pulling out the stops a pretty obvious thing to do,
but you'd be surprised how many people are not aware of that.
One more thing: By controlling how hard you work
the pedals, you can control, or vary, the sound volume. Hard
foot pedaling will give you a bigger sound, however, if you get
too carried away there's a good chance you'll break one of the
pedal straps -- happens all the time.
