I specialize in profesionally restoring all makes and
models of antique pump organs (reed organs) including
melodeons, to their original factory settings. However,
bringing them back to their original splendor requires a great
deal of professional experience, and a great deal of time.
I'm Rod Fudge, and I own and operate Pump Organ
Restorations. On my web site you'll find a wealth of
information about antique reed organs and the professional
restoration service I provide my clients. You'll learn
exactly what's involved in restoring reed organs and how long
it's likely to take. So have fun, browse around a bit,
and I can almost guarantee you're going to learn something
new.
Regarding the pump organ you see
above:
Believe it or not, most antique reed organs can
be brought back to look the very same way they did when
they first left the factory, over a hundred years ago.
Now, to be truthful, this particular organ had not been
sitting out in someone's barn for seventy
five years -- it was in pretty good shape to start with --
but nothing like you see it here.
It is, however, important to point out that this organ was not
refinished! The only thing that happened was the organ's
original finish received a very serious "deep cleaning." It was
then allowed to dry for two weeks and then it received a couple
of coats of fresh lacquer in the spray booth. The thing to
remember here is that the organ's original finish was not
disturbed -- in my opinion, that's important.
